Australian Apprentice Wage Subsidy

The Minister for Small and Family Business, Skills and Vocational Education has today announced the Australian Apprentice Wage Subsidy, a move to support greater uptake of apprenticeships in rural and regional businesses.
Supporting up to 1,630 new Australian Apprenticeship commencements, the Australian Apprentice Wage Subsidy is available to eligible employers who sign-up and commence an Australian Apprentice in a qualification that has been identified on the National Skills Needs List, from 1 January 2019.
The Australian Apprentice Wage Subsidy trial is available to employers who sign-up and commence a new worker Australian Apprentice from 1 January 2019 and until 1,630 sign-ups have occurred (based on rural and regional population distribution per State/Territory).
The Australian Apprentice Wage Subsidy is based on the award wage rate under which an Australian Apprentice is employed and provides support in the first three years of an Australian Apprenticeship as follows:
- 75 per cent of the first year award wage
- 50 per cent of the second year award wage
- 25 per cent of the third year award wage
