Small Business Grants increased

The Tasmanian Government has increased funding for a pilot program to help small businesses take on more apprentices and trainees.

The Small Business Grants to support Apprentices and Trainees program allows eligible employers to apply for a subsidy of up to $4,000 for each apprentice or trainee employed this financial year.

Employers who are not eligible to claim the Payroll Tax Rebate Scheme may be eligible for this program. The Payroll Tax Rebate Scheme for apprentices, trainees and youth employees is aimed at larger employers and offers a rebate on the payroll tax of eligible employees.

The Small Business Grants to support Apprentices and Trainees program is targeted at growth areas of the economy including:

  • Tourism
  • Hospitality
  • Health, Disability and Ageing
  • Agriculture
  • Engineering
  • Manufacturing
  • Building and Construction
  • Digital technologies
