High Five #1 – Change is constant
The first High Five of Career Development is that Change is Constant.
Change is constant
Over time most things change, and careers are no exception.
Once upon a time, people had one job for their whole life. Today, Australians on average move through at least six different career paths in their lifetimes!
The rate of change is skyrocketing in the world of work and the ability to adapt to it is now an essential skill.
Learning how to adapt to change will set us up for success in our future. Change is inevitable, so how do you make the most of it?
When change is occurring around you, it may be out of your control. To make the most of it, look towards the positive. Think of how that change can benefit you; whether it’s making your job easier, or giving you the opportunity to develop new skills.
By being open to change, constantly challenging yourself to be better and being open to all opportunities to develop your skill set, you can prepare yourself for the unexpected.
Prepare for the unexpected
Resilience is one of the most important skills you can develop to help you succeed in your future. It is the ability to bounce back from challenges that life throws at you.
Developing your resilience will help you in all aspects of life, not only in the workplace.
By preparing for the unexpected, you can develop strategies to not only overcome the inevitable challenges with minimal stress, but to use them to your advantage.
